The Construction Road was built in the 1970s to transport material dug out from the land below Campbelton Farm. The earth and rock was used to construct the British Steel yard.

Once the yard was built the road was used again for some material to be transported to the Oil Rig yard that was being built. After that the road was no longer used and has remained ever since, it is just over grown in the middle of a field now, but is still visible.  It was used twice as an emergency route for traffic when the main A78 was closed during the 1980s and although not been used since its still a recognised emergency route should an occasion present itself again.
